WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY

Sara and Brian G, Longmeadow

“Most weeks we can fit all our trash into the barrel, which was unthinkable before we started composting."

Julie A, Longmeadow

"I've always wanted to compost instead of throwing food in the trash, and I've tried in the past, but ultimately I was too busy or lazy or forgot to turn the bin. We saw Banana Compost (formerly Commonwealth Sustainability) at a friends' house and I was shocked to learn how incredibly easy they make it. And it's super inexpensive. Our town has tiny trash cans that get filled so quickly, but since we started composting last year, there are weeks we don't even have one full bag of trash. I highly recommend Banana Compost - they are amazing and efficient and great to work with."

Kathryn R, Springfield

"I can't say enough great things about Banana Compost. I've used other composting services, but this service is unmatched! Matt and Steve are very responsive and respectful, and they go above and beyond for their customers. Compost can be worrisome because it can get kind of gross, but that is completely avoided through the way they conduct business. I love being a customer, and I plan to be one for as long as possible!"

1. Using Organic Materials

We use organic materials daily and often have leftovers or extras that can be turned into a resource, not waste

Compost piles

breakdown organic material into

nutrient rich soil

2. Reuse
Organic Materials

  • 66% of materials thrown into landfills are organic and can be used as a resource, not waste.

  • When organic materials break down without oxygen, they produce methane which is a strong greenhouse gas, 20x more destructive to the atmosphere than carbon dioxide (CO2).

  • Excess methane in the atmosphere is creating a blanket around the earth, contributing to global warming.

4. Reduce
Greenhouse Gases

Plants use CO2 to eat (photosynthesis). Oxygen

is released back into the atmosphere and the Carbon is stored in the soil

3. Replenish Soil

Adding compost to native topsoil will

provide a slow

release of nutrients

to grow healthy plants
